Building a Block-Built Swimming Pool in Calpe

Building a block-built swimming pool in Calpe

We show you, step by step, how we built a block-built swimming pool in Calpe: a pool measuring 8 × 4 metres, with a uniform depth of 1.60 m throughout and access via a stainless steel ladder.

The design and building plans were drawn up by our friend and architect Francisco Perles of the Norte42 architecture practice in Calpe. As with all our building projects, the first step was to apply to the town hall for the necessary permits — a piece of paperwork we take care of, so the customer has no hassle.

Excavation and Shell

Once the outline had been marked out, we brought in a digger to excavate the pit. After the excavation, we secured the walls and laid the steel reinforcement mesh for the reinforced concrete; we also installed the pipework, the pump and the conduits for the underwater spotlights.

Concrete and Waterproofing

Once the steel reinforcement was secured, a local company delivered the concrete, which is sprayed onto the floor and walls using a vehicle fitted out for the job. We levelled it according to the plans and gave the corners a rounded finish, as the customer wished. After a week's drying time came one of the most crucial steps: waterproofing with Aplicadry in several coats. The durability of the pool depends on this, which is why we always use the best materials.

Glass Mosaic and Lighting

And now for the finest part: laying the glass mosaic — the surface everyone sees while swimming. The customer chose a model with a shimmering effect that, when the pool is filled and catches the sunlight, creates a real spectacle of light. The finishing touches were the coping stones and the lighting with RGB LED spotlights.
